Amitabha or Amida is the main Buddha of Amida Buddhism that originated in China, Vietnam, Korea and Japan. Amitabha rules the western paradise, a state of consciousness called Sukhavati. Padmasambhava, an Indian monk from the eighth century, brought the worshipping of Amitabha to Tibet and Nepal. In Mahayana Buddhism, Amithaba is one of the five Dhyani Buddhas. The qualities of Amithaba are the development of concentration, satisfaction and the wisdom of discernment.
